This research Area was ratified and commenced in 2012.
The research area aims to focus on [i] the integration of advanced computational design in the architectural design workflow, [ii] context-specific critical conditions and processes, and [iii] real time visualization. The computational design strand of inquiry comprise the relation between praxis and experimental architecture, development of data-driven computational design processes, analysis and simulation with the aim to develop the performative potential of an informed non-standard architecture. Addressing the role of real time, locally and context specific data sets versus closed data sets, integrated methods and working approach leading towards a unified toolset, amended workflow and workspace of architects. Various forms of visualization technologies as augmented- and virtual reality, the development of systems and processes for materialization will be central to the research project.
One strand of this research is facilitated by and focuses on the development of OCEAN's Virtual Computational Design Laboratory [VCDL].
Another strand of this research is closely connected to the integrated research and teaching environment of the Advanced Computational Design Laboratory [ACDL] at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
