Duration of Research: 2007 - ongoing
Auxiliary architectures constitute a potent way to organise space and modulate micro-climatic environments in already build up contexts in which it is not possible to modify or replace the urban fabric or buildings. Such supplementary interventions can provide an extended architectural threshold between exterior and interior for versatile use, a heterogeneous micro-climate and a significant reduction of climate impact on the initial climate skin and interior. Consequently Auxiliary Architectures can provide an integrated approach to architectural design and sustainability. The Auxiliary Architectures research area focuses on performance-oriented research by design, the development of versatile design solutions as well as related design methods that integrate analogue form-finding with advanced computational design methods.
