This research Area was ratified and commenced in 2012.
The research aims at rethinking design principles of buildings, which can hold large amount of visitors. These types include mainly sport, cultural and multifunctional amusement premises of various sizes. The general public as spectators gain experience, which typically informs the functional planning, and form of these buildings. They are mostly seen as destinations within larger urban context and therefore the impact will be seen in various scales of urban fabric. Although the research will oversee the whole topic of assembly architecture there is a potential for detail exploration of these areas: viewing comfort and spectator facilities, envelopes in conjunction of long span structures, visitors’ experience.
The design phase for a new speculative project will commence in 2014.
